On December 6th around 11am, PCSO deputies headed to Posner Park Mall Dick's Sporting Goods for a report of retail theft in progress. The store manager had contacted the sheriff's office after observing eight juveniles hiding merchandise. When the deputies arrived at Posner Park Mall within minutes they detained all eight suspects as they begun their investigation.
The eight teenagers from the football team the Thoroughbreds were visiting Davenport Florida from Philadelphia Pennsylvania to compete in a football tournament. The Polk County Sheriff's Office released a list of 47 items over $2,000 worth of goods that were potentially in the process of being stolen. The list includes jackets, mouth guards, football gloves and more.
The teens used the transportation app Uber to visit the mall just hours before the football game was set to start. When deputies questioned their coach to hold the young men accountable he responded by begging to let the kids go and asking if the Polk County Sheriff's Office had anything better to do.
