DAVENPORT FLORIDA - HISTORY AND INFORMATION

​​Davenport Florida History:


Davenport is a city in Polk County Florida within the United States of America that was incorporated in 1915. Davenport is thought to be named after Colonel William Davenport who served as the local U.S. Commander in the Second Seminole War which occurred about 12 miles north of the current Davenport Florida. The beautiful city of Davenport really started to take off in the 1880s when the South Florida Railroad was built into the city.
 


Davenport Geography and Climate:


Davenport Florida is located at
28°09′38″N 81°36′10″W within the Central Florida Highlands area of the Atlantic Coastal Plain with a terrain consisting of flatlands, gentle rolling hills and water all around.


Davenport Florida Development:


Many years ago people would travel from all around to visit the intriguing Circus World amusement park. After the park closed it was rebuilt and opened as Boardwalk and Baseball which had a minor league baseball park that attracted spring training and minor league baseball teams like the Kansas City Royals. This development also failed in 1990 but was again redeveloped and re opened as the beautiful Posner Park or Posner Commons Outdoor Shopping Mall which is located at Interstate 4 and Hwy 27.
 

Transportation & Roads:


Interstate 4 is the major road going through Orlando Florida and runs east and west across the state from Lakeland to Tampa. This road runs next to Walt Disney World Resort. US 17/92 is the main north and south route that cuts through the center of Davenport and provides access to Kissimmee and Haines City. US 27 is the exit off I-4 and is labeled as Legoland which is about 45 minutes south of the intersection.
